After making the Flat Screwdriver Earrings I have been on the lookout for items that are not normally worn as earrings but which I can transform to be so. Alas I found a good one: a whistle! Not the usual kind with a ball inside. More like the flute type. I bought the whole pack of 6 pairs.

When I got the opportunity, I executed what I had in mind which I successfully wore last Saturday to Church. When my eldest saw it, she asked for the pair and wore them instead and left my earlobes bare. (She lives with my mom because her school is near my mom’s house so we see each other weekly.)

It can be worn in any casual occasion or even in a formal event.

I plan to sell am selling these as I know they are functional and original. Last Friday, May of Nshima Servings posted an FB message about who would wanted to jump with her into the unknown. A message about anything about her would suffice. I did and I got a PM that I will receive something (she did not know yet at that time) the next day, which I did.

Yesterday I was sick in bed when an unknown number texted me about the delivery. I was asked if I could go out of the village. I guided him to my door instead, through text messaging. He survived.

I started tasting the gift. When there was one left, I thought of taking a picture of it.

It may not be recognizable but here is the box top.

Thank you May for the semi-surprise (half of it was no longer a surprise since you already told me I was receiving something)! Good thing it wasn’t the dried mangoes because I just learned recently that it causes my asthma to attack. Some mangoes leave me an itching throat that triggers the attack. That is why when eating ripe mangoes, I only go for the cheeks and not the seed. Those nasty tiny hair give me problems. As for the mango tartlets, I ate most of them and nothing bad happened.

A few weeks ago I saw a keychain that caught my attention. I knew right away what I will do with it.

Last Saturday, I wore them to Church.

When I went to Divisoria last Monday, I saw another thing that I thought would be good for a set of earrings. The pair will not just be for enhancement but it is good for emergency as well.

Last month I have experienced for the first time to undergo a diamond peel facial treatment by Enhancements Skin & Cosmetic Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa. I wouldn’t have undergone it on my own. It just so happened that my friend Levy of Levyousa could not go herself. That is what I call opportunity! Levy posted it on FB and the first commenter will have it. I was there!

Actually, I printed out the coupon that I should bring. It’s worth P1,800. Levy also called the clinic who will be going instead of her. The time was scheduled as well. I had my youngest with me than. We left the house and was already 10 minutes away (in a jeepney) when I realized I forgot to bring the printout! Daughter suggested we go back home. I said we could not because we will get late and I hate to get late. I said we’re going to look for an internet shop. Good thing there was one when we got off the jeepney.

We arrived at the clinic and were immediately entertained. I felt pampered. At the end of the session, I was told my face was relatively clean. Not much white or black heads (compared to others who go for the treatment also, that is). Maybe it was due also to my makeup-less lifestyle. I easily get allergies since I was a kid so makeup did not really appeal much to me.

In the middle of the treatment I asked if she can include under my chin. My daughter retorted, “Ma, that’s no longer called ‘facial’ because it’s already part of the neck.” Duh!

It was a refreshing experience!

While I went to my swimming lessons, I pass by a mini “forest” and I get to pick up some tree pods which name I do not know. I was able to get 5 of them hoping I can do something creative later. That “later” was just a few days ago.

After carving, I turned it into a bag accessory which now dangles at one side of my denim bag.

Being a mother for 17 years now, I guess the most memorable moment was when my miracle baby was saved…

I was 4 months pregnant to my 2nd child in 1996 when my tummy ached so much that I had to be brought to the hospital. When I was given ultra sound checkup, the diagnosis was I was merely constipated in addition to having just eaten 4 balut that night. It costed us P800 for that emergency. The 200-peso balut (P800 divided by 4) became an inside joke.

A month later, my tummy ached so much again. It was so much. The fetus was really mad and angry kicking my tummy as if she wanted to get out right that moment. Of course, it was another rush to the hospital. Another ultra sound check was done. They saw 2 cysts on my left ovary. One was 10cm in diameter and the other was 5cm. The doctor said it can get smaller and can be taken out, free of charge, at the same time I deliver the baby. Later did I realized she meant a CS operation! Yaiks! That’s too much money! Even if the removal of the cysts were free the CS operation alone is staggering for a family who earns below the poverty level!

After a few hours, I was told I can go home the next day. At around midnight, though, I had another kill-me-now kind of pain. It turned out, the 2 cysts that were seen ruptured…it was actually 1 cyst that twisted. With the baby’s kicks, it hurt all the more. At 5 months, we were given a choice: me or the baby. Of course the choice was the mother. Hubby had to sign a waiver.

I was readied for the operating table in an hour. While in another room before the operating room, I felt like I was in great labor more painful than my first delivery. I told the nurse and she gave me novaine. (Later the next day I learned that my doctor was furious why the nurse gave me the pain killer.)

On the way to the operating table I was talking to God. I have been since the ordeal started but this time I was focused. When I was moved from the rolling bed to the operating table, I felt the cold metal. I saw the injection for the general anesthesia…it was huge! I felt the needle at my back…then while drowsing off, I muttered, “may God bless your hands.”

I remember I was being rolled to my room. I saw the blood bag hanging above me but I was too drowsy. When I awoke after so many hours that day, I saw my hubby and the doctor. I was told not to talk yet but my first question was, “How’s the baby?” She (the doctor) said, “Nasa tyan mo.” (Iin your tummy.) I smiled, held my tummy and slept happy.

I think it was that night when I woke up finally and was told the whole story by my doctor. She said it was a rare situation that a mother and baby in my situation would survive. It was a miracle because althouth the cyst ruptured, it did not spread in my body. Every bit was in one place that they were able to get all out. The uterus was set aside (with the fetus, of course), the left ovary and its tube removed with all the bad elements, then the uterus was brought back to its proper place.

I stayed in the hospital for 1 week. We had no money but church friends donated some money. It still lacked some and we had to bring our laser printer as collateral for me to be checked out. The church helped shoulder the rest so finally we got home.

In February 18, 1997, I had a normal delivery to a healthy baby girl, Myrrh Raquel. She’s now 14. She loves jokes, solves Sudoku puzzles, sings and draws. She’s creative and can’t be fooled easily. She has a knack for entrepreneurship and is street smart. She loves animals and is sorry we can’t pet any due to our physical situation. She gets thrilled with certain Koreanovelas and can even memorize Korean songs in those novelas. She cries easily and laughs easily. My miracle baby is now a lady.

What makes me the best mom could be my share in shaping my children up by teaching them to love by serving others without expecting anything in return, being joyful in the midst of disappointments, having peace by trusting God, being a little more patient with trials and tests, being gentle towards others despite others showing the opposite, showing goodness instead of revenge, having faith in God at all times, being meek when confronted with arrogance, having self control especially at times when needed, and obeying God over men even to the point of disobeying me if what I say is against God.

This is so they will develop godly character which will also shape their children and their children’s children forming a better world. (Gal. 5:22-23, Acts 5:29)

When she was in 4th grade, I think, I encouraged my 2nd daughter to draw. She was not excited. She asked what it will benefit her (income wise in the future)? I said, “Who knows? Maybe you have classmates who can’t draw projects then maybe you can draw for them for a fee.”

I gave her a drawing book and some pencils and colors and told her just to draw about anything.

Now, the artist in her shows…better than her mama’s. She probably got it from her granddad (my side). Her father draws from time to time too so she could have gotten the genes from him too.

Below is one of her latest drawings…She copied Sherlock Holmes from a book cover.

I tried to draw the same and it did not come close to 50% good.

It’s that time of the year when the kids in the Church (as well as the young once), look forward to in the year…the summer outing. This summer we held it at our favorite resort which we happen to use during the year end outing.

Since I’m joining this week’s Chic In Black Monday (I’m a bit late since it’s already Tuesday), here are the pics my sister took that included me in a black rash guard and black swimming shorts. Underneath, I had a black one-piece swimsuit.
